what's new!

I was gifted 3 beautiful vintage Japanese kimonas to repurpose and I did just that! The silk fabric is amazing with the most intricate design in all 3. One is a coral color, another turquoise and the last is a rich deep purple with back accents. I took great care in cutting the kimona as I didn't want to waste one inch of silk. One of the kimonas has a large embroidered pattern on the back and I can't wait to design something specific for this piece. When I first learned to sew, I repurposed old pleated skirts out of necessity not having the money to purchase new fabric. now I repurpose vintage items because it is the right thing to do. I love taking a piece that at one time was useful for what it was and then creating something new that will help reduce the carbon imprint! The Japanese kimona pouches are an exquisite example of that.
